Key & Peele Jersey Deep Dive
I remember when my friends and I were quoting Key and Peele skits as they premiered and ultimately uploaded online. I’ve uttered many a “noice” in various situations. It wasn’t until a few years ago that I rewatched the East/West Conference clips and was inspired to visit the Penn State student shop. Imagine my disappointment when I found out that McCringleberry was a few characters too long for their custom jersey option. This gave me an idea. How many of the wacky named players could I find custom jerseys for through their respective school’s student shop?
This endeavor was inspired by my interest in where pop culture and the real world intersect. Now, I say the next statement with a horse sized salt lick of salt. In this day and age anything can be customized, whether through sites that are specifically built to do so or the oodles of pop cultures fan shops that pepper every corner of the internet. The best bouts of creativity have to have boundaries and rules and the specificity of this experiment was built with that in mind.
The most common hurdles were the following:
School not having a shop
School having a shop but not option for CUSTOM jerseys
Names being too long for available space on custom jerseys
School not existing.

In the end I’m surprised at the decent amount of customizable jerseys available (especially with these names).

Note: I just remembered there as a Pro Bowl version of the skit that featured players that inspired the skits along with a handful of Key and Peele originals. I’ll add those soon.
